Above the Falls

Iceland · 2016

Wearing a blue jacket, a hiker stands on a rocky ledge beside a series of cascades that spill over a dark cliff and braid together into a single rushing stream. Moody clouds hang over the hills, while wildflowers and moss soften the rugged ground. Waterfalls like this are everywhere in Iceland, where heavy rainfall, melting snow and glaciers feed countless rivers that tumble off old lava plateaus. Many of them have no famous name at all, and finding one with no one else around is one of the quiet joys of traveling here.
