Here, gilded palm-shaped capitals crown the white columns of the arcade, framing a slender minaret against a clear evening sky. Even though the mosque is relatively new, finished in 2007, I'm always amazed by how clean it is, with every surface polished until it reflects. The columns are inlaid with semi-precious stone in flowing floral vines, part of a complex that counts more than a thousand columns in all.
